WHERE ON EARTH AM I ?
Travel Quiz

Welcome to the Holiday-Explorer Travel Quiz. The quiz is open to all UK residents aged 18 years and over. It is only available through our website www.holiday-explorer.com   You do not have to register to take part.

How it works:

The format is quite simple.
At the start you have clues informing you of your position - this can be anywhere in the world. Further clues direct you from place to place until you arrive at your final destination - easy!
When you think you have discovered the places marked [1] to [6], make a note of them (name of Town or City only required), then send all six answers together (not individually please) by e-mail, including your full name to:
whereami@holiday-explorer.com

All correct entries - if more than one - will be entered into a draw to determine the outright winner. The name of the winner will be posted on this site along with the correct answers after the closing date. Closing date: 31st October 2008.
Well, some participants may find it easy, others may not. This is a fun quiz that will hopefully stimulate and entertain you.
No correspondence can be entered into.
Your e-mail address will not be passed on to other parties.

GOOD LUCK!

QUIZ No1

As I emerged from the trees I had to pause awhile until my eyes became accustomed to the light. I was confronted with the sight of an old castle. I pondered for a moment thinking of the poor wretches whom had rotted in its dungeons over the past 900 years.
From the battlements I looked down on the now large town. The local citizens say this is a good place now - so good they named it twice [1].

However, I had a long way to go so had to depart posthaste.
My friends were perplexed when I decided to leave them so suddenly.  Leaving them behind was quite difficult but I had to get to the coast before dark.
I arrived as I had hoped just before dusk. Rumour has it that a man who once lost his head to a beautiful woman, never uttered another word, and still resides here in silence to this day [2].

After a good breakfast the following morning I was off again, thankfully I would not have the sun in my eyes for quite some time yet. After many miles I stopped for refreshment at a place that was once home to the pontiffs in an earlier time [3]. On and on I travelled, bypassing town and city until I reached my destination for that day. After a cool refreshing shower I found a local eating place to spend what was left of the evening. I finished my delicious meal off with a splendid coffee with lashings of rum plus a complimentary dish of chocolate flies.

The following morning I awoke still feeling somewhat tired due to a very disturbed and restless night.  I seemed to have been dreaming all night long about objects that took on strange form. Wall clocks appeared to melt in front of my eyes and strange long legged animals, the likes I had never seen before. Although there was beauty - there was also a disturbing feeling that the world was at war with my senses - was it a nightmare?   I’m not quite sure - but a very strange dream indeed [4].

My journey today takes me to a city above all others.  Although there is much to see and do at this place [5] I must not dally. It would be heaven to sit in the beautiful gardens watching the world go by, but I must leave tomorrow. The last time I was here the clue to my route was hidden in the green ivy.

I feel quite awestruck now as I stand on this ancient bridge looking up at the scene in front of me. It has been another long exhausting day. This is what I came here to see. The third largest of its kind in the world.  Hundreds of columns rise up to the heavens - so beautiful and impressive, but I still don’t fully understand why it was built facing the wrong way!
