The Alaska Cruise
A unique country where the sun never sets, Alaska promises an idyllic setting for a cruise holiday. A frozen winter
land where the summer never comes, there is so much to explore that visitors of all ages will find an entertaining
and memorable journey.
Perhaps the highlight of any Alaskan cruise is the sight of the magnificent glaciers that line the shores. Trips to
the shore can be a real adventure as you have the opportunity to travel on a dog sledge that takes you close to the
majestic glacial Fjords so you can really appreciate the sheer size and beauty of these icy sculptures. The
landscape is a magnetic mixture of hot and cold with imposing active volcanoes nestled between glacial waterfalls
and ice coated woodlands where you may even catch a glimpse of wild wolves and their puppies playing in the snow.
In particular Juneau is a wonderful place to visit as it boasts a wonderful waterfall that keeps visitors
mesmerised for hours. Another highlight of the landscape is the Glacier Bay National Park where there are plenty of
natural wave formations frozen into the icy water or perhaps the Denali National Park where the brave can venture
towards Mount McKinley, which is Alaska`s highest mountain.
Obviously swimming isn`t popular in Alaska because of the frigid water temperatures but ice hockey is a favourite
with the locals and you can often watch some fantastic games in and around the small towns. If you`re feeling
athletic there are plenty of hiking trails to follow, skating on frozen lakes or maybe relax with a little pole
fishing with the locals.
A cruise is perhaps the best way to explore this rugged landscape in comfort as not only do they afford the best
views, but, also they often have heated cabins that let you see the sights in comfort. For a little extra there are
fabulous celebrity class cruises that offer larger cabins, digital TV and even your own private balcony. Cruises
start from many locations across America and Canada but the most popular are probably Vancouver, Seattle and San
Francisco and all three departure points take a scenic route along the 34000 mile long shore of Alaska and it`s
many seaside towns.
There are many affordable cruises available and a cheap
cruise will give you the perfect opportunity to see whales, sea lions and other sea mammals in their
natural environment. Often there are marine biologists on board the cruise ships who can help you spot these
amazing animals and tell you all about their life in our oceans.
